The Lofoten Long Crossing Hike in Norway spans 180 kilometers and takes approximately 11 days to complete. This challenging trek combines several smaller hikes with road junctions (walkable), offering an adventurous experience through the stunning Lofoten archipelago. The hike begins at Delp and ends at Brekka (you’ll find more information on how to get to the starting point of the itinerary later on this page) taking you through some of the most picturesque and remote parts of Lofoten. Along the way, you’ll encounter cliffs, fjords, and valleys. The ever-changing scenery includes both coastal and mountainous landscapes, making for a varied and visually rewarding trek.

Some important additional information: This route includes a very short section through an underwater tunnel, so you’ll need to hitch a ride or take a bus. There’s also another section (Kjerkfjorden / Vindstad) requiring you to take a ferry (technically, the 2 ports are separated only by a rocky headland, but there’s no path, so we can’t confirm whether it’s passable or not).

    How to get to the Lofoten Crossing and back ?

    As the Lofoten Long Crossing Hike is not a loop, it can have 2 different starting points, depending on which way you do it. Here’s everything you need to know about how to get to the starting point of the Lofoten Crossing and how to get back, in the normal way or in the inverse way:

    First of all, here’s the Norwegian transport company’s website so you can organize your trip. Some information was found on rando-lofoten.net.

    • How to get to Delp (start for normal way) : To reach Delp, the closest bus stop is Straumnes. You can take bus line 733 to Straumnes. If you are coming from Narvik Airport, take bus line 300 to Jordnes kryss, then switch to bus line 733 to Straumnes. Note that bus line 733 does not operate outside of the vacation periods from 01/02 to 19/06 (except weeks 8 and 12) and from 22/08 to 30/01 (except week 52). From Straumnes, it’s a short walk of 25 minutes, or hitchhike to Delp.
    • How to get back from Brekka (end for normal way) : From Brekka, it’s a 3-hour and 25-minute walk to Ă…, as there is no road between Ă… and Brekka, only a trail. From Ă…, you can walk for about 1 hour and 15 minutes or take a bus (lines 742, 932, or 300) to Moskenes. At Moskenes, you can take a ferry to Bodø, where there is an airport.
    • How to get to Brekka (start for inverse way) : The most convenient way to start the hike at Brekka is to travel to Moskenes by ferry from Bodø. From Moskenes, take a bus or walk to Ă… (about 1 hour and 15 minutes), and then walk the trail to Brekka, which takes approximately 3 hours and 25 minutes.
    • How to get back from Delp (end for inverse way) : From Delp, walk for about 25 minutes to Straumnes. You can then take bus line 733 from Straumnes to Jordnes kryss (be carefull of vacation periods) and switch to bus line 300 to get to Svolvær, where a ferry to Skutvik is available. Alternatively, from Jordnes kryss, you can continue to your final destination or the nearest airport (Narvik) by bus, car, or hitchhike.
